Learning to Say Yes

A few months ago, I was reading, on a blog of course, that as parents we typically say no too much.  This is of course because most of the things being asked of me are not always the easiest, most efficient way.  So I challenged myself to say yes to my children more often.  Of course there are times when a no is in order. But really so what if it takes me 15 min longer to make dinner because Hannah wants to help really why does it matter if dinner is 15 min later? But that time spent in the kitchen with her is priceless and I hope she will look back fondly of those times.

So last weekend when Hannah and Emiliano came to me, wanting to make banana muffins (yes because Dad had hinted to them they he might want some) I put myself aside dragged my tired prego behind out of bed where i was going to take a nap, and made banana muffins with them.  They were so proud that they made themselves and dad a snack. So that hour I could have taken a nap and then quickly made muffins, but instead I said yes to them because really is it that big of a deal for me no, but the them it was the world of fun.

Meet Emiliano

Emiliano Andres (Bubby)  was born on Friday, May 16, 2008.  There is really no way to completely describe our boy. Bub is very energetic and funny. There is never a dull moment with him.  But on the complete flip side he is so snugly, his nap time is my favorite time of day when we get to snuggle in bed read a story and he goes to sleep.  Bub loves being outside playing in the dirt with his shovel and bucket.  He is a great helper and is almost always by my side.  He loves Hannah very much, although these days that loves is expressed by tormenting her. Ah the terrible twos. Someday it will pass but for now I am loving every crazy minute with him.

Meet Hannah

Hannah Louise was born on Sunday April 3, 2005. She is currently in Kindergarten.  Hannah loves nature and art.  If you ever come to my house you will likely find Hannah at the dining room table with a huge stack of colored paper, scissors, a glue stick and her art box creating her next piece of art to be displayed on my fridge.  Hannah is super sweet and fairly sensitive. I can't believe how fast she is growing up and my dreams for her are big. I know that Hannah will touch many people's lives.  She shares my passion for cute fluffy cloth diapers and loves looking a pictures of babies in their fluff online with me.  Hannah is a fantastic big sister and looks forward to having another baby in the house.  She is becoming very interested in the kitchen and enjoys cooking with me.

Meet Arnoldo

Arnoldo and I met February of 2006. He came to my rescue of a slashed tire.  I know this is not a fantastic picture of him, but it is exactly how I think of him.  He is the most crafty skilled man I know.  This is a picture of him building Hannah's doll house for Christmas. Arnoldo is an auto mechanic by trade, currently working as a parts manager at an autobody shop.  You can most of the time find him in the garage working on his classic cars of building me something fun I have requested. I swear we will never buy furniture again. Arnoldo is a wonderful father to his 18 year old son and our two children.  He is the most playful Dad in the world and loves when Hannah shows off her school accomplishment. I won't say that Arnoldo and I are complete opposites but he is defiantly more grounded than I and that is a great thing.  I do need someone to bring me back to reality on occasion.

Meet Me

Welcome to my newest project, our family blog. First I should introduce myself. Although probably the only people reading this is family and friends that already know me.  Unfortunately most of them are far away and so get get all the daily details.   My name is Rebecca I grew up in wonderful Fairbanks, AK.  I currently live in Plano, TX, a small city in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. I am 25 and a stay at home mom to 2 children, and brewing another.  I love our Earth and try to do my best to make it a better place for my children and future generations.  Green, crunchy, hippie what ever you want to call it, that's me. I love knitting, sewing and a little cooking(hey we have to eat right?). I am a strong advocate for natural childbirth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering,co-sleeping baby wearing, and non circumcision. I'm sure there are tons more and there will be further posts I'm sure about all that.  I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts and family adventures with everyone.

Peace,
Rebecca
